Job Description

As a DBT Skills Coach, you will be instrumental in leading the live sessions of our DBT skills program. Your role will involve guiding students through a transformative journey, helping them deepen their understanding and application of DBT skills.

Responsibilities

  • Coaching Live Sessions: Facilitate weekly live sessions, following TheraHive’s structured Live Session Guide. Sessions include mindfulness exercises, discussion of home practice, skill demonstrations, and Q&A.
  • Asynchronous Communication: Offer feedback on student submissions via our platform (up to 1 hour weekly).
  • Host 1:1 Sessions: Provide additional support through 30-minute one-on-one sessions as needed.
  • Report Attendance: Monitor and report attendance for each live session, communicating any absences or issues to the TheraHive team.
  • Feedback Review: Collaborate with the TheraHive team to discuss student feedback post-module.
  • Course Material Feedback: Provide feedback on the course materials and platform functionality.

Requirements

Coaches must complete and pass our training program before they can lead groups. Depending on your level of experience, our training program has different requirements (see qualifications below).

Coaches commit to working with us for the entire duration of any class that they start — classes include 22 weeks of live sessions. Sometimes, this extends beyond 22 weeks to accommodate holidays.

Applicants must have a reliable high-speed internet connection, a high-quality webcam, effective lighting, and a quiet, professional environment to lead classes.

Qualifications

We can accommodate coaches with a range of different experiences—depending on your learning history, different training requirements will apply.

No matter your background, you must be passionate about DBT and our mission to make high-quality skills training accessible.

Skills and Competencies

  • Professionalism and Empathy: Balance a professional demeanor with empathetic engagement.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong interpersonal skills to manage a group through challenging and sometimes emotional conversations.
  • Active Listening: Willingness to stay focused in the present moment and respond to students in a way that allows them to feel heard and understood.
  • Motivational Skills: Willingness to inspire and motivate students is essential to helping them advance through challenges, stay committed, and maintain enthusiasm and engagement with the course.
  • Adaptability: Every coachee is unique, and a one-size-fits-all approach doesn't work in coaching. Being adaptable in methods and communication styles is key to effectively meeting individual needs.
  • Confidentiality and Trustworthiness: Maintaining confidentiality and being a trusted figure are essential for creating a safe and open coaching environment.
  • Self-Reflection and Continuous Learning: Willingness to assess and improve based on feedback from the TheraHive supervision team.
  • Cultural Competence: Understanding and respecting diversity and individual differences, and being willing to coach effectively across various cultural contexts.
  • Technology Proficiency: Familiarity with Slack, Google Workspace, Zoom, and training will be provided for VideoAsk and Typeform.

Working Hours

Our program includes live sessions that take place at regular times each week. Most classes run on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, Thursday midday, and Saturday mornings (Pacific Time). In addition, you must be available to respond to students between live sessions … this can be done on a flexible schedule.

Compensation

This is an hourly position at $30-$50 an hour, depending on experience.
