Psy.D. / DBT-Linehan Board of Certification certified therapist
Doctoral Candidate at Rutgers University Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology
This course is divided into four sections which are ideally taken sequentially but can be taken in any order or individually:
Mindfulness is the foundation of DBT because it will help you accept and tolerate the powerful emotions that inevitably arise as you challenge habits on the path to personal growth.
Distress tolerance teaches you how to accept, in a non-evaluative and nonjudgmental fashion, both yourself and your current situation with the goal of becoming capable of calmly recognizing negative situations and their impact, rather than becoming overwhelmed or hiding from them.
Emotion regulation teaches you how to understand, name, and master your emotions, change unwanted emotions, reduce vulnerability, and manage intense emotional responses.
Interpersonal effectiveness teached you how manifest changes that you seek (e.g., requesting that someone do something) or to resist changes someone else is trying to make (e.g., saying no). The skills will help you maximize the chances that your goals in a specific situation will be met, without damaging your relationships or self-respect.
During the course, clients can communicate via private messaging with the members of their Hive and with their coach.
